E&B: studio work today- trying to streamline the language

5 figured sequence of Carolin; 75cm deep paper roll I started (after 1/2 heartedly tidying up things a bit) by rolling out the action sequence paper roll of Carolin figures, and adding one more. I wanted to finish it as such. Then I started a new one, as in a large paper roll drawing, using more black paint. I started with 4 sequences featuring the [...]

E&B: studio work from field trips to Spanish Point and Ennistymon

So this morning I got into the studio- I wanted to to try some ideas around the drawings id made on Thursday when I visited Carolin at her food garden in spanish point and Friday when I went to visit Veerla at home in Ballagh, Ennistymon. On Friday evening I had drawn a more detailed version of a drawing I'd made of Veerla dismantling her [...]

E&B: Visiting Veerla, gardner and carer, at her home in Ballagh, Ennistymon

So this morning, after visiting Ennis Garda station to check if it was ok, I drove to Ennistymon to visit Veerla, who is a carer/gardener. Veerla looks to be in her early 50's, and lives in a cottage, with no neighbours, as there are no houses within view of hers. Its pretty isolated. Veerla was a support worker with the brothers of charity but no [...]

E&B: Visiting Carolin, Horticulturist and food farmer at The Armada Hotel, Spanish Point.

Went to Spanish Point this morning to see Carolin, who had responded to my facebook message re coming to draw her. It was a lovely day, not too windy and very bright, mostly due to the openness of the surroundings on the coast. Carolin's garden is a field on the estate belonging to the Armada Hotel, which she has been developing for the last 6 [...]

Quick synopsis of what we spoke about I am going to rename the blog posts chronologically under the 'eggs and butter' header. explore further- the outline drawings from most recent post- the outline drawings of the lady and child. less detailed drawing, more detailed line. E&B: observational drawings again

Continuing the theme of people I encounter/observe/spy on:) I wandered down O' Connell Street today, and saw, a lady and her son standing at the corner, a lady working in the barbershop window, and an elderly lady standing poised outside the coffee shop. I did these in brush strokes as I needed to loosen things up more. I am still 'drawing' with paint though. Last [...]

E&B: more broken down shapes- dissembling the school run lady from last week

Last week I spied a lady holding hands with her small child, about junior infant level looking, and took a sneaky shot of them walking towards a supermarket. See below: I am looking at this drawing again, and have tried making drawings of the shapes as opposed to trying to make finished 'drawings' that resemble something. I made these yesterday and am looking at them [...]

E&B: out looking

I drove to Quin, Newmarket and Clarecastle today in search of the 'rural' Well no, I just went to draw people. But there were no people, I saw 3 men, that was it, in Quin. This statue of Mary, in front of the abbey ruins, was the only female there. I walked about a bit and listened to the birds sing and the occasional landrover [...]
