SO I drove up to the Flaggy Shore this morning, Tuesday 29th to check the tide- according to my tide predictor website it should have been high tide this morning at 8.30. So I was there at 9.43 according to my phone time and the tide was like this.
Woah! Much higher than I thought it would be. I would have thought it would have been travelling out again significantly at this stage , IF high tide was at 8.30. I am planning on starting at 4am, finishing at 9am. Hopefully this will more or less be in line with the actual tide…
OK so good news from this photo being it will still be possible to walk right up to walls edge, as you can see its mostly sand underneath the water at full tide, so meaning it will be possible to walk right up to the wall, therefore finishing the performance only when the water meets the wall, as hoped. Now I need to go and get my explanatory leaflet printed and laminated so as Paul photographer can give it to people so he doesn’t have to be explaining what is going on to anyone who might be there.
Also reflecting on the physical issue of needing to pee during the time frame of the performance, I will try limiting food and drink from lunchtime on today, so hopefully I wont need to go, in theory. I am not worried at all about walking for 6 hours, I’m worried re needing to pee. SO, best thing is to fast from lunchtime. I’ve done this before for kettlebell competitions and driven long distances with very little food or water in my system, after a few days of severely reduced calories, and then eaten a small amount and lifted a lot of kettlebell weight, so I know I can do it and function ok.
Now I need to go and get my explanatory leaflet printed and laminated so as Paul photographer can give it to people so he doesn’t have to be explaining what is going on to anyone who might be there.
I feel like all the thinking, all the reckoning, all the planning, all the funding application attempt efforts, all the emails to ask for help, all the research trips, to make this ephemeral, cerebral artistic action will be worth it. And this is only performance no 1 of the 3. If I get there, get started, get the performance done, get it documented by Paul, manage some filming of my own in some way, I will have achieved what I need to achieve.
