Project Description

Below is a recent painting made for Trasnú, an show from the Clare Artist Mother Collective. Trasnú opened on Culture Night in The Courthouse Gallery, Ennistymon.

The below are a series drawn paintings I made for the show Ringfenced- this was a show of new paintings and an accompanying performance in May 2024 in The Old Schoolhouse, Scarriff, in association with Mountshannon Arts Festival. I had decided to curate, create and produce my own show. I was sick of applying for open call opportunities and being unsuccessful- I needed to control the narrative. I was immensely pleased with the results and the overall experience.

These are a set of illustrations on circles of a card made for The Circle of Life- a project undertaken with Eleanor Feely, Artist In Residence in St Josephs Hospital, in 2021. I sat and talked with the patients and the memories they told me of their lives I used to make these drawings. On the back of each drawing is a handwritten note alluding to the drawing. The patients wrote me the notes and I copied their handwriting for each note. The drawings are visual fragments of memories. I wanted the drawings, hung as an installation for the closing show from the project, to be accessible to the viewer as a drawing and accompanying note, and intimate to the owner of the memory in a more private way.

 

A series of drawings I made in 2021 when very interested in soap/gossip magazine covers and their impermanent nature. I inserted poems and lines from favourite songs in place of the magazine title and sub titles, which you hardly notice. These are marker and coloured pencil on cartridge paper, A3 size.
